Protecting God’s Children

Safe Environment

Our parish is committed to protecting children and vulnerable adults. Everyone who ministers with them completes Safe Environment certification before they begin — and keeps it current.

Who needs to be certified?

Any volunteer, employee, or clergy member who works with or has access to children or vulnerable adults — catechists, youth ministers, altar-server coordinators, ushers, those visiting the homebound, and many others. If you’re unsure, the parish office can confirm whether your role requires it.

How it works

  1. 1

Complete VIRTUS “Protecting God’s Children 4.1” training

Register at virtusonline.org, choose your parish as your location, and complete the ~50-minute session (English, Spanish, Vietnamese, or Korean).

  2. 2

Complete a background check (LiveScan fingerprinting)

Adults who serve must complete diocesan-approved background screening. The parish office provides the LiveScan request form.

  3. 3

Read & sign the Code of Conduct

Acknowledge the diocesan Code of Conduct for those who work with children and vulnerable adults (OPCVA).

  4. 4

Upload your VIRTUS Certificate of Completion

Download your Certificate of Completion from your VIRTUS account and upload it here. The parish office verifies it before you’re cleared.

Once you submit, the parish office verifies your VIRTUS Certificate of Completion and clears you to serve. You’ll be notified by email, and we’ll remind you before it’s time to renew.
